The Level Set Method in a Finite Element Setting

John Shopple
Department of Mathematics, UCSD

Abstract:

The level set method is a way of tracking moving interfaces numerically.Topological changes (splitting or joining) of several moving interfaces arecaptured naturally by the level set method. I will briefly introduce thelevel set method, then discuss some of my current research: the level setmethod in a finite element setting, body fitting a mesh to the interface, reinitialization and application to finding equilibrium solute-solventinterfaces.
