Solving Einstein's Equations: PDE Issues (Part I)

Lee Lindblom
Caltech

Abstract:

This talk will give an introduction to the Einstein evolution equations. A variety of issues will be discussed including the importance of choosing gauge conditions appropriately, constraints and constraint damping, and various boundary condition issues. (Part 1 of 2)

As part of a new NSF FRG Award involving UCSD, Caltech, and CSU, in Fall 2011 we are running a weekly seminar series/reading course in the overlapping areas of mathematical and numerical relativity. The meetings will be at 11am each Thursday in 2402 AP&M. The meetings will be streamed via Evo to remote participants at CSU (Colorado) and SAMSI (North Carolina). See the MNGR Seminar Series webpage for more information about this lecture and the other lectures scheduled for the Fall MNGR Seminar Series.
